  • Stop in every six months to see your dentist

Everyone knows how important a yearly physical is.  Everyone knows how important for women over the age of 40 to get a mammogram every year.  Everyone knows how important it is for men over the age of 50 to get a prostate exam.  These are all things that one must do to ensure optimum health at any age.  Then why do many Americans think that going to the dentist twice a year is not as important as any of these examinations?  Keeping your body healthy is important if you want to live a long, healthy, safe life.  Keeping your teeth, mouth, and gums healthy is essential to the overall health of your body.  Many people can not comprehend why but let us break it down for you.  If you let your teeth, mouth, and gums go without a proper check up for only a few years, you can be missing important warning signs.  Gum and mouth cancers are on the rise and seeing your dentist twice a year can help you find or even prevent such diseases from occurring.

Making sure you visit your dentist every six months is not that hard to do.  All you have to do is set up an appointment and show up.  In these trying times, many people are trying to cut corners to save a dollar here and a dollar there.  It is very understandable, however, your health is not something that you should try and cut corners with.  If you are worried about the cost of the dentist then you can always get on a payment plan.  Almost every dentist has a payment plan and they are usually more than willing to help you and your family out with it.  If you are not worried about the cost and just hate to go to the dentist you need to stop and think.  Is being afraid of the dentist really worth not going and missing out on a cleaning and check up?  During the cleanings and check ups is usually when the dentist and dental hygienist find out what is going on in your mouth and see if there is anything serious happening.

Getting there may be the hardest part about going to their office.  Once you are there you will find that it is not that bad.  The dentist’s office always has a bad stigma to it.  Everyone thinks of big drills and large needles but it is not that way at all.  That may have been the case in the past but the dental industry has made leaps and bounds since then.  Now they have tiny needles that do not even hurt that much.  The drills they use for cavities are barely felt because of the Novocain that is administered to the patient if necessary.  If needles are not your thing at all, you can always ask to be given “laughing gas” and that will put you right out and you will barely feel a thing.  Either way, it is essential to get your teeth, mouth, and gums checked at least twice a year.

Summary: The dentist is not the scary place it once used to be.
