To appreciate Glastonbury, Connecticut you must know the history of this wonderful town.  Not many people know that Glastonbury was an intricate part of the American Revolution.  During the American Revolution, there was a gunpowder factory that assisted the American’s in their fight for freedom.  In the late 18th and 19th centuries, Glastonbury was a shipbuilding town because of its great location on the Connecticut River.  During the World Wars, the towns’ factories supplied leather and woolen goods to many of the foreign and American troops alike.  These are just a few bits and pieces that are taken from the history of this great town.  Becoming a part of a town with such a rich history is amazing.  Generations to come will understand the importance of Glastonbury.  Another little known fact about Glastonbury is that they freed their slaves almost sixty years before slavery became illegal in America.  From looking at the history of Glastonbury you can see that it was such a progressive town.  Not much has changed because right now Glastonbury is a leader in many categories in Connecticut.
