Stamford Crowns

There are many situations when a tooth needs a crown. Sometimes a healthy tooth can just fracture. You may have bitten on something the wrong way or fallen and cracked your tooth. You may have a large old filling with weak walls of tooth that can longer hold up. Your tooth may be severely damaged by decay sometimes without any symptoms until it is too large. A crown may be recommended under these circumstances since there is not enough tooth remaining for just a filling. The placement of a crown or cap strengthens and protects the remaining tooth structure. Crowns can improve the appearance of your smile as well. At the Stein Dental Group, we have several experienced dentists ready to provide you with the best and safest materials available for your teeth.

Once the decision is made that you need a crown, it will take at least two visits in our office . In the first visit the tooth is shape and prepared. An impression or mold is then taken of your tooth. A temporary crown is then made and cemented in place. Temporaries also known as transitional crowns can be made out of plastic or metal. On your second visit your custom made crown will be ready for you. The crown is tried in and adjusted for your comfort before it is cemented in place. You will be able to treat this tooth just like a regular tooth.

There are several kinds of crowns available. Porcelain fused to metal crowns have a strong semi-precious metal interior with an esthetic porcelain exterior. They are generally used in almost any area of the mouth. All porcelain crowns are used mainly in the anterior region of your mouth because they are the most esthetic type of crown. We use laboratories that use the latest technology allowing these crowns to be quite strong and extremely natural. We even offer custom staining on premise for that perfect look. All metal crowns are used in the posterior regions of your mouth where strength is essential and space is minimal.

We will match the crown color to the color of your teeth. Let us know if you are considering whitening your teeth . Since bleaching products do not affect the color of crowns, it is important that your natural teeth are whitened first so that we can match the crown color to your new smile. We offer several techniques including the Zoom whitening system.

Your mouth will be fully evaluated before your permanent crown is completed. All the surrounding areas should be stable and healthy. Your gums should be checked as well as the integrity of the teeth surrounding this tooth. We have all the specialists you need in one office. We pride ourselves in working on the whole patient and whole mouth to provide you with the ideal care you deserve.
